Here Are The Best Gaming Laptops Under 1000

Acer Aspire VX 15 | i7-7700HQ – GTX 1050 Ti

Processor: Intel Core i7-7700HQ | Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB GDDR5 | Memory: 16GB DDR4 RAM | Storage: 256 GB SSD | Screen Size: 15.6″ | Resolution: 1920×1080 | Weight: 5.51lbs.

SummaryAcer Aspire VX 15 | i7-7700HQ - GTX 1050 Ti

We believe the newly released Acer Aspire VX 15 is without doubt the best gaming laptop you can get with $1000. The VX 15 is the only gaming laptop at this price a GTX 1050 Ti desktop graphics card. Though the 1050 Ti would probably alone merit the VX 15 the top spot, it also has the 7th gen i7-7700HQ and 16 gigs of DDR4 ram. If the the VX 15 had more storage than it’s 256 GB, literally every other similar priced laptop would be obsolete. We actually recommending getting the i5-7300HQ variant of the VX 15, since it’s quite a bit cheaper but is indistinguishable to the i7 version in performance. It also has an IPS display, which many budget gaming monitors don’t even have.

The Acer Aspire VX 15 is equipped with the newest seventh-gen Intel Core i7 7700HQ, which is a small, but measurable improvement over the Skylake i7 6700HQ. The chip clocks at up to 3.8 GHz. The graphics card is the GTX 1050 Ti, a desktop card with 4 GB of VRAM. It is a huge performance improvement over the GeForce 960m, the card found on most other gaming laptops in the $700-$1000 range. The 950 Ti has video performance roughly that of the GeForce 970m. Moving on, the VX 15 carries 16 GB of DDR4 ram - much more than you will ever need for laptop gaming. The storage on the laptop is a little disappointing: a 256 GB SSD. We would have much rather seen a 512 GB SSD as 256 GB can get dangerously near full capacity with a standard suite of applications and four or five large games. However, if you manage you storage mindfully or switch the SSD out for a larger driver, storage will be no problem.
The laptop has a standard all-plastic casing with the same characteristic red accents seen on the higher end Acer Predator laptops. The chassis material is a sturdy matte black plastic. The laptop weights just over five-and-a-half pounds and measures 10.45" x 15.31" x 1.14". Connecting the chassis and the screen is a silver centrally mounted hinge. The keyboard is quiet, responsive, and very pleasant to use. There is red back lighting, but there are no color or brightness adjustments. There is a decently sized touchpad that also functions as a clickpad as there are no buttons.
The display on the Acer VX 15 is a 1920x1080 IPS display. This is an improvement over the TN displays traditionally found on most laptops because of much better viewing angles and overall display quality. Contrast are color reproduction accuracy are usually greatly improved on IPS displays.

The Acer Aspire VX 15 also has two variants with an i5-7300HQ instead of the i7-7700HQ and either the GTX 1050Ti or GTX 1050. Apart from the CPU and GPU, all three laptops are identical. You won’t see much of a downgrade in gaming performance, but you can save 10-20% if you want to buy one of the following VX 15 Models

MSI GL62M 7RE-407 | i5-7300HQ – GTX 1050Ti

Processor: Intel Core i5-7300HQ | Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti 4GB GDDR5 | Memory: 8GB DDR4 RAM | Storage: 256 GB SSD | Screen Size: 15.6″ | Resolution: 1920×1080 | Weight: 5.29lbs.

SummaryMSI GL62M 7RE-407 | i5-7300HQ - GTX 1050Ti

For the around $800, you would never expect to get a gaming laptop with a GTX 1050Ti and i7-7300HQ. Simply said, the MSI GL62M 7RE-407 is the most powerful gaming laptop in the $800 price range. Laptops with roughly the same specs as the GL62M 7RE-407 can easily run up to $1,200. With the latest i7-7300HQ and GTX 1050Ti, the laptop will play almost every single title at 60+ FPS. The GTX 1050Ti is easily twice as powerful as the GTX 960M, as it’s a desktop graphics card. Along with the Acer Aspire VX 15, the MSI GL62M 7RE-407 is easily the best gaming laptop under $1000.

The MSI GL62M 7RE-407 is a laptop that comes at a mid-range price but offers high-end performance. Thanks to its new Pascal GTX 1050Ti graphics card, the laptop has no trouble running even the most demanding games today and smashes benchmarks. The 1050Ti, with 4GB of GDDR5 Vram, is nearly twice as fast as the 960M, which was the industry standard for the older generation of sub $1000 gaming laptops. The GL62M 7RE-407 also features the i5-7300HQ, a powerful mobile CPU roughly equivalent to the i5-6400 desktop processor. When compared to the i7-7700HQ, the i5-7300HQ is less than 10% weaker. The laptop has a 256GB M.2 SSD for storage and 8GB of DDR4 RAM out of the box. The RAM can be upgraded to 32GB.
The MSI GL62M 7RE-407 follows the design trend for most other MSI gaming laptops. It's all black construction make it look very much like a business laptop apart from the prominent MSI "Gaming G Series" logo on the lid. Apart from a few thin red stripes and large air vents on the rear of the chassis, the laptop looks very ordinary. The laptop has a SteelSeries keyboard that is responsive and comfortable to use, although there is no back lighting. The battery life is one an issue with the MSI GL62M 7RE-407, but even a large battery will not last long on a laptop as powerful as this one. Don't expect it to last for more than a few hours when gaming - a desktop GPU is power hungry. The laptop weighs 5.29 pounds and measures 15.07" x 10.23" x 1.06".
The panel on the laptop is a 15.6" FHD (1920x1080) IPS display. The display has good viewing angles and colors, though the wide bezels are unappealing.

ASUS ZX53VW | i5-6300HQ – GTX 960M

Processor: Intel Core i5-6300HQ | Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M 4GB GDDR5 | Memory: 8GB DDR4 RAM | Storage: 512 GB SSD | Screen Size: 15.6″ | Resolution: 1920×1080 | Weight: 5.51lbs.

SummaryASUS ZX53VW | i5-6300HQ - GTX 960M

Though the ASUS ZX53VW doesn’t offer cutting edge tech, but the GTX 960M and i5-6300HQ still holds up very well to games. The laptop has an ultra-fast M.2 512 GB SSD, which is a huge boost to general performance for the laptop and is something you simply don’t see at the $800 price range. We think that the ASUS ZX53VW is still one of our top picks because of its good record for reliability and decent specs.

Performance wise, the ZX53VW fares well compared to other similar-priced laptops. The ASUS ZX53VW carries an sixth-gen Intel i5-6300HQ chip (up to 3.2 GHz turbo-boost) and a GeForce 960M laptop graphics card. The Nvidia GTX 960M graphics card on the ZX53VW pales in comparison to the desktop GTX 1050 and 1050Tis that are found on newer laptops at approximately the same price, but with four GB of GDDR5 Vram, the 960M still holds up to modern games on 1080P. The ZX53VW includes 8 GB of built-in GDDR ram, though the laptop can support four times that amount - 32 GB. Though the majority of new laptops today have at least 8GB of memory, it is still sufficient for mobile gaming. The storage on the ASUS ZX53VW is one of it's main selling points - a blazing fast 512 GB M.2 SSD.
The ASUS ZX53VW has some mild red and black gaming styling on it's metallic chassis that is reminiscent of the higher-end ASUS ROG laptop series. ASUS says "The ZX53VW features F-22 stealth fighter-inspired lines with an angled surfaces for a dynamic and powerful stance." It has a very sturdy, but not bulky build. The laptop measures 15.08" x 10.04" x 1.18" and weighs just over five-and-a-half pounds. The keyboard is red backlit with a responsive chiclet-style keys that have a 1.8mm travel distance. The WASD keys have extra lighting. The laptop has relatively disappointing battery life in our tests, and you can expect anywhere from three to six hours on a full charge.
The laptop has a standard 15.6" Full HD 1920x1080 display. It has an anti-glare display and the LCD panel is LED backlit. The display is surrounded by a cheap plastic bezel, which isn't particularly impressive for a laptop of its caliber.

Dell Inspiron 15 7559 | i5-6300HQ – GTX 960M

Processor: Intel Core i5-6300HQ | Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M 4GB GDDR5 | Memory: 8GB DDR3 RAM | Storage: 256 GB SSD | Screen Size: 15.6″ | Resolution: 1920×1080 | Weight: 5.67lbs.

SummaryDell Inspiron 15 7559 | i5-6300HQ - GTX 960M

One of the for afforable under $1000 gaming laptop models, the Dell Inspiron 15 7559 is a sleek and cleanly designed gaming laptop that will function as a general purpose laptop as well as a mobile gaming machine. Though you can get a laptop with newer and better components of you can shell out a few more bucks, the Inspiron 15 7559 is own merits and holds up very well to most modern laptop applications.

The Dell Inspiron 15 7559 has a 2.3 GHz Intel i5-6300HQ with 3.2 GHz turboboost and a GTX 960M discrete graphics card that has 4GB of GDDR5 Vram. The laptop has 8GB of DDR3 RAM and a 256 GB SSD. These specs will knock out all general non-gaming applications, like videos, browsing, video editing, and CAD. As for gaming, these specs are also quite admirable, especially since the Inspiron 15 7559 is priced far below $1000. For most titles today, the Inspiron 15 7559 will run them all at all but the highest settings perfectly.
The design of the Dell Inspiron 15 7559 is one of our favorites. It has a very clean, angular build with subtle red accents all around the black chassis. It doesn't have the out of style tacky and absurd gaming styling found on a lot of gaming gear, looking proper in any setting. The laptop measures 14" x 10.4" x 1", but weighs nearly six pounds, a hefty weight for a 15.6 inch laptop. Though the entire build of the laptop is plastic, it doesn't have a cheap feel. The palm rests and lid both have a nice rubberized coating. The keyboard is back-lit not by red light, but my plain white LEDs. The keyboard and touchpad both are sturdy and easy to use, albeit a little shallow feeling.
The display on the Dell Inspiron 15 7559 measures 15.6" and has a resolution of 1920x1080 (Full-HD). The panel type is IPS. Surrounding the screen area are very thin bezels, giving what is a relatively cheap gaming laptop a premium feel.

ASUS VivoBook Pro N552VW | i7-6700HQ – GTX 960M (4K)

Processor: Intel Core i7-6700HQ | Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M 4GB GDDR5 | Memory: 8GB DDR4 RAM | Storage: 1 TB HDD | Screen Size: 15.6″ | Resolution: 3840×2160 | Weight: 5.58lbs.

SummaryASUS VivoBook Pro N552VW | i7-6700HQ - GTX 960M (4K)

When looking at the ASUS VivoBook Pro N552VW, it doesn’t seem too out of the ordinary until you get to the 4k display it has packed on a 15.6″ laptop panel. With four times the pixel density of any other laptop on this list, the image quality on the N552VW is astounding. Obviously, having an ultra-high resolution display puts stress on your system once you start gaming, but the VivoBook Pro N552VW happens to have decent specs: i7-6700HQ + GTX 960M. With a good wifi router for gaming, you are sure to have a great gaming experience. (ASUS is also known as a great brand amongst gamers)

The ASUS VivoBook Pro N552VW is armed with the Quad-Core Intel i7-6700HQ, one of the most powerful mobile processors. The i7-6700HQ runs at 2.6 GHz, but can clock up to 3.5 GHz with Intel Turboboost. The laptop also has a discrete graphics card, the GTX 960M 4GB GDDR5. If the ASUS VivoBook Pro N552VW had just been a standard FHD laptop, these specs would play almost all games just fine, but gaming on 4k with a 960M is a stretch. Don't expect to run at 60 FPS unless you are playing on low settings. The laptop has 8 GB of DDR4 RAM, but that can be expanded to 16 GB. This model of the VivoBook Pro N552VW doesn't have a 256GB or 512GB SSD, which is the industry standard nowadays for laptops over $800 - only a 1TB hard drive.
Nobody would guess that the ASUS VivoBook Pro N552VW is a 4k laptop from just its design alone. The laptop is built pretty cheaply, looking and feeling more like a $500 laptop than a $800 one. The single piece plastic body and large bezels don't help the laptop's design rating. The touch pad and keyboard are rather plain and certainly not high-end, but we had no issues with it. The battery life of the 4 cell 3200 mAh battery on the ASUS VivoBook Pro N552VW is weak, as expected. Running a 4k display and i7-6700HQ is not easy.
The 15.6" screen on the ASUS VivoBook Pro N552VW is a full-fleged 4k (3840x2160) display. With a huge pixel density of 282 ppi, the display looks incredibly crisp and clear. But since the physical screen size is still 15.6", you won't see as large of an improvement in clarity over a 1080P display simply because 1920 x 1080 is already pretty good for a 15.6" display. Color accuracy isn't any better than any other laptop monitor, however. For gaming, a high resolution display means that all games will look much better, but the trade-off of image quality is gaming performance.

Like the ASUS VivoBook Pro N552VW, but don’t fancy the 4k display? Check out the ASUS K501UW-AB78 – it’s similar to the VivoBook, but without the power and resource hungry 4k display. Plus you get a speedy 512 GB SSD instead of an old 1TB HDD! However, it has a weaker processor, the i7-6500U.

Final Thoughts

For under $1,000, anyone can get an very good gaming laptop today, especially since the GTX 1050Ti has started to replace the GTX 960M on sub 1k laptops. The laptops on this list are definitely not all equal, as we would recommend a gaming laptop with a 1050Ti over a 960M any day because the former is a 70% improvement in performance over the latter. If we could only have three laptops on this list, these three would be our choices:

Acer VX5-591G-54VG (i5-7300HQ | 1050Ti)

MSI GL62M 7RE-407 (i5-7300HQ | 1050Ti)

Acer VX5-591G-5652 (i5-7300HQ | 1050)

Try getting a high-quality chair for gaming as well to complement your gaming setup.
